Matcha energy latte
matcha+energy+latte.jpg

I’ve been a matcha lover for years.

While I do love the taste, when I drink matcha it’s the nutritional benefits that I’m after. If you’re new to matcha, here’s a quick run down of what it has to offer:

  • has the nutritional equivalence of 10 cups of brewed green tea

  • contains an arsenal of vitamins and minerals, and an unparalleled amount of antioxidants, which are naturally occurring chemical compounds that help to defend the body against aging  and chronic diseases

  • believed to boost metabolism

  • calms the mind and body

  • enhances mood

  • aids in concentration

The recipe below is my go-to energy booster. It’s light, sweet and delicious, and gives me the jolt of energy I sometimes need to power through a long day.

Enjoy and be sure to read the notes below for important tips and recommendations to achieve the best possible flavor!

matcha energy latte

Yields: 1 serving

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 tbsp matcha blend powder or 2 tsp of matcha powder (see note below)

  • 1 tbsp raw tahini (sesame seed butter)

  • 1/4 of a whole banana (for a touch of sweet)

  • 1.5 cups of cold water or unsweetened plant-based milk (see notes below)

  • 1 cup of ice

Directions

  • Add matcha, tahini, banana and water to a high speed blender. Begin to blend on a low speed and gradually increase to a medium-high speed - for about 10 seconds, until until all ingredients are evenly blended.

  • Pour drink over a cup of ice.

Notes: If you are using a matcha blend that contains powdered coconut milk, you can use cold water as your liquid to blend this latte. However, if you’re using a regular matcha powder that contains no other ingredients, I would recommend using an unsweetened plant-based milk as your liquid for blending.
